Time to Find Out if You’re a Backcountry Explorer or a Glamping Legend

Alright, what kind of camper are you? Are you the type who thrives in the wilderness, living off the land like some kind of off-the-grid pro? Or are you more of a “camping, but make it comfortable” type, with a cozy bed and maybe a private hot tub? Take a look at these camping scenarios and see where you land, are you a backcountry explorer or a glamping legend? Keep score and find out if you’re roughing it or just kinda… vibing with it.

    1. Sleeping Arrangements:

    • Backcountry Explorer: A sleeping bag, an insulated pad, and the sound of nature’s soundtrack, that’s all you need.
    • Glamping Legend: You’re in a king-sized bed. The sheets are softer than your couch at home. The white noise machine is on.

    2. Cooking

    • Backcountry Explorer: You’re out there, making a meal over an open flame. Doesn’t matter if it’s a can of beans or a perfect steak, you’re cooking it like a boss with nothing but basic gear. This is real, rugged, campfire cooking.
    • Glamping Legend: You’ve got a fully-equipped kitchen in your yurt. Heck, there’s probably a restaurant nearby too.

    3. Lighting:

    • Backcountry Explorer: You’ve got a headlamp on your forehead and a campfire flickering. It’s a vibe. The firelight’s doing its best to keep you from tripping on a rock or stubbing your toe on a tree root.
    • Glamping Legend: There are string lights and lanterns hanging everywhere, creating a warm glow and you might even feel like you’re in a Pinterest post. It’s charming.

    4. Showering:

    • Backcountry Explorer: You’re jumping in a stream or a cold lake to rinse off, because that’s what nature calls for. It’s bracing, it’s invigorating.
    • Glamping Legend: You’ve got a hot shower at your site, with actual water pressure. No waiting for it to warm up.

    5. Shelter:

    • Backcountry Explorer: A lightweight, waterproof tent that packs down small and sets up easy. It’s cozy, it’s reliable.
    • Glamping Legend: You’ve got a yurt. It’s furnished, air-conditioned, and has electricity.

    6. Entertainment:

    • Backcountry Explorer: Your entertainment is the silence of the woods, maybe a book or a conversation with your buddies around the campfire. That’s right, a conversation. Remember those?
    • Glamping Legend: There’s a flat-screen TV, board games, and possibly a sound system to for music under the stars.

    7. Drinking Water:

    • Backcountry Explorer: You’re sipping water you filtered straight from a stream or lake. Nothing tastes more like nature than water you collected yourself.
    • Glamping Legend: You’ve got a mini-fridge stocked with chilled water or an in-cabin dispenser with filtered water on tap.

    8. Communication:

    • Backcountry Explorer: You’re off the grid. No phone, no service, and no one bugging you.
    • Glamping Legend: You’ve got free Wi-Fi. You’re sending pictures of your campsite to your followers and checking emails like a modern-day pioneer.

    9. Hiking:

    • Backcountry Explorer: You’re trekking through rugged terrain with just the essentials on your back. It’s you, the trail, and the thrill of discovery. Finding your own way is part of the adventure.
    • Glamping Legend: You’re enjoying a guided hike along scenic trails, with someone to point out cool sights and handle the heavy lifting.

    10. The Environment:

    • Backcountry Explorer: You’re deep in the wild, surrounded by untouched beauty. You’re respecting the land, leaving no trace, and you feel like a part of the ecosystem.
    • Glamping Legend: A fully-serviced campsite or resort with an on-site spa, a swimming pool, and a concierge who’s probably offering you s’mores on demand.

    Tally Your Score:

Now that you’ve made your choices, tally up your results!

    What Are You?

    • Backcountry Explorer: You’re the kind of person who doesn’t need a fancy cabin or heated blanket to know they’re alive. You’re out there, roughing it, with nothing but your wits and a couple of trusty tools. You’re living life on your terms: no frills, no fuss. You thrive in the wild like it’s a second home, and honestly, you wouldn’t have it any other way. A soft mattress isn’t needed when the earth is beneath you and the stars are above.
    • Glamping Legend: You love the great outdoors, let’s not kid ourselves, though. You’re there for the fresh air and the views, but also for the comfort that comes with it. You’ll take that cozy bed, hot meals, and Wi-Fi to check your emails (or let’s be real, stream a couple of shows. Don’t pretend you’re “unplugging”). You’ve found the sweet spot between nature and luxury. Because, hey, why rough it when you can sort of rough it and still have your creature comforts, right?
    • The Best of Both Worlds: Maybe you’re a little bit of both. A backcountry explorer with a taste for the finer things, or a glamping legend who doesn’t mind getting a little dirt under their nails. You can pitch a tent and cook over a campfire, but you won’t say no to a hot shower and a cold drink afterward. Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds?
