Escape to the Beach this
Winter!
Happy Camper Blog
Without a
doubt, wintertime brings plenty of fun activities to enjoy, like skiing,
snowboarding, sledding and taking walks to enjoy the beauty of a recent
snowfall. But sometimes, it’s also nice to enjoy a change of pace like when
you can ditch the snow boots and feel the sand between your toes!
Here are some areas of the country where you can escape to the beach this
winter to enjoy some warm weather camping:
South Carolina
Ocean Lakes Family
Campground in Myrtle Beach offers
oceanfront camping that’s both big rig and tent friendly along with a long
list of activities and amenities. The park also offers special events like
the upcoming Beach N’ Boogie event on President’s Day weekend on February 17
and 18 that will feature concerts and shag dancing lessons and
contests.
Florida
It’s hardly surprising that Florida offers great opportunities
for beachfront camping. In the north, Bryn Mawr Ocean
Resort is an RV park located on
beautiful St. Augustine Beach. It offers 20 oceanfront back-in sites along
with many pull-through sites, most featuring an elevated gazebo. But, of
course, the biggest attraction is the beach, which is easily accessible via
four boardwalks that cross the sand dunes. In northwest
Florida, Camp
Gulf offers a choice of beachfront and
shaded RV sites, and the park just added a new super water slide to its South
Pool. All the way to the south, Geiger Key Marina & RV
Campground in Key West bills
itself as “an old Florida fish camp . . . the way the keys used to be” and
offers waterfront hook-ups, boat slips and direct access to the Florida Keys’
famous fishing reef.
Texas
South Texas is home to two popular beach destinations – South
Padre Island and Galveston Island. South Padre Island
KOA is surrounded by
the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Laguna Madre Bay, and is big
rig-friendly (offering pull-throughs up to 98 feet long). The park also
offers fully-furnished deluxe cabins and condos. Galveston Island RV
Resort is a beachfront
campground located on the island’s scenic West End, away from the crowds but
offering easy access to the area’s beaches and many
attractions.
California
The Golden State makes it to the top of the list of beach
destinations for many people, and California offers some great picks for
camping. Campland on the Bay is located on the shores of San Diego’s Mission
Bay, so it also offers easy access to major attractions like Sea World and
the San Diego Zoo. Beach activities include volleyball, bonfires, swimming,
picnicking, sandcastle building contests, and, of course, sunbathing. Located
midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco,
is Pismo Coast Village RV
Resort. This beautifully landscaped
oceanfront park offers 400 full hookup sites on 26 acres and is conveniently
located within walking distance to shopping and restaurants in downtown Pismo
Beach and the city’s 1,370-foot wooden pier. Located about three hours north
of San Francisco, Caspar Beach RV
Park is a pet-friendly campground
that offers beach access, and the charming village of Mendocino is just a few
miles away. The campground is set in a canyon surrounded by state park lands,
and faces a protected cove surrounded by beautiful cliffs.
So wherever you decide to hit the beach this winter, you’ll be
able to find a great campground where you
can enjoy plenty of fun in the sun!
