Fabulous
Festivals
Happy Camper Blog
There are so
many fun festivals across the U.S. and one of the best things about them is
that they offer great entertainment, great food and great times all in one
place. Here are a few popular festivals for you to consider as you plan your
next camping adventure.
Summerfest
Milwaukee, WI
June 29-July 3, 2016 and July 5-10,
2016
Billed as the world’s largest music festival, Summerfest spans 11
days and features over 1,000 performances on 11 stages. Performers range from
emerging talent and local favorites to some of the music industry’s hottest
stars. The list of big names slated to perform this year includes Tim McGraw,
Def Leppard, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Weezer, Panic! At the Disco, Luke Bryan,
Blake Shelton and Selena Gomez. More than 45 food vendors will be on hand,
and since it takes place in Milwaukee, you can be sure there will be plenty
of cold beer to enjoy, too.
Maine Lobster
Festival
Rockland, ME
August 3-7, 2016
Now in its 69th year, the Maine Lobster Festival is described as
“five days of food and feasting on the fabulous coast of Maine.” That
feasting includes an impressive 20,000 pounds of lobster accompanied by more
than 1,700 pounds of butter. There’s also a sea goddess coronation, a parade,
entertainment, The Great Lobster Crate Race, a road race, fun run and walk,
arts and crafts, cooking contests and more. Proceeds benefit the local
community.
Bumbershoot
Seattle, WA
September 2-4, 2016
One of Seattle’s largest cultural events, Bumbershoot draws
thousands of people from across the country to celebrate the arts through
live music, comedy, theatre, film, visual arts, dance and more. Plenty of
food vendors will also be on hand to help keep the crowd’s energy high. As
for the name? Bumbershoot is a humorous term for umbrella, and was derived
from a combination of the words “umbrella” and “parachute.”
PA
Bacon Fest
Easton, PA
November 5-6, 2016
What’s not to love about a festival that celebrates bacon? This
annual event, held in eastern Pennsylvania, draws more than 50,000 attendees
who can check out more than 100 vendors and over 20 musical acts on eight
stages. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, well-behaved, bacon-loving dogs are
welcome to attend. You can even buy them a bandana at the Bacon Boutique. PA
Bacon Fest runs concurrently with the Easton Farmers’ Market, the oldest,
continuously-operating open-air market in the country.
