Glamping
in the USA: There’s More Than One Way to Go
Happy Camper Blog
It’s like
getting the best of both worlds. Let’s say you prefer a bit of luxury when
you travel, yet you still want to get out and enjoy the beauty and serenity
of nature. That’s where glamping comes in. The term is a combination of the
words “glamour” and “camping,” and what it really means is that you can enjoy
getting outdoors without giving up the comforts of home like a comfy bed and
hot showers.
The other great news is that you have a lot of choices when it
comes to glamping. There are beautifully-appointed safari tents,
fully-restored vintage Airstream trailers, luxury cottages and log cabins,
just to name a few. Here’s a look at some of the many choices you have across
the USA:
Open
Air Resorts, Spicewood, Texas
Set in the Texas Hill Country, this pet-friendly resort offers a
pool, fire pits, outdoor games, picnic tables, a playground, dog park, cable
TV and free Wi-Fi. For a fun glamping experience, there’s a choice of seven
fully-renovated vintage trailers. Each one is
equipped with an attached porch, outdoor grill, high thread-count sheets,
kitchen appliances, a bathroom and big screen smart TV. They even have fun
names like Lucille, The Jetson, The Minty and Lil’ Buckaroo. Open Air also
offers fully-equipped tiny homes they describe
as being “small but mighty.” One of them even has a porch with a
fireplace.
Cape
Charles / Chesapeake Bay KOA, Cape Charles,
VA
Located just north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on
Virginia’s Eastern Shore, their KOA Resort sits right on the Chesapeake Bay
with its own private beach. Bring along
your fishing gear, kayaks,
and paddleboards to take advantage
of this terrific setting, or make a splash in the
campground’s two pools. Enjoy
waterfront views and stunning sunsets with a cocktail on the deck at the
onsite Jackspot Bar & Grill, or order
up specialty coffee drinks and ice cream at Happy Jack’s Cafe. There’s even
a dog beach for your furry
travel companions!
Their waterfront campground
boasts of a variety of accommodations suited for both campers
and glampers,
including RV
Rentals, RV Sites, Deluxe
Cabins, and Safari
Tents.

double-decker bus), tiny homes,
yurts and glamping
pods, which are tiny cabins that each sleep two. The resort
also takes advantage of its wooded setting to offer a few different styles of
treehouses, including a family treehouse, a
Bohemian treehouse and primitive treehouses.

8×10 tent outfitted with two twin beds and bedding. Each family tent also has
a different theme such as Coastal Comfort, Boho Luxury Nest and Plein Air.
The campground also offers Family Cottages which
are a more spacious version of the Couples Camp Cottages and have a larger
footprint to accommodate one king bed and two single beds. Sandy Pines also
has a heated saltwater pool that’s open in the summer and a Kids’ Kamp with a
playground and games.
