    have a roof over their head, yurts offer an economical alternative to renting
    a cabin, and they’re a fun choice for families, too!

    The history of yurts dates back thousands of years when nomads
    in Central Asia used these convenient, circular structures as their homes.
    Back then, yurts were made of wood and felt, but today, they’re made of
    high-tech materials and enjoyed by a different kind of “nomad” —outdoor
    enthusiasts.Here are a few campgrounds around the country that rent
    yurts:

    California

    Santa
    Margarita, CA

    Located near San Luis Obispo, this
    KOA campground offers spacious, 20′ yurts that sleep up to eight people and
    are furnished with two single beds, a full bed and a queen bed. These shaded,
    pet-friendly units also include a table & chairs, firepit and picnic table.

    Colorado

    At this campground, located
    approximately 100 miles west of Colorado Springs, you’ll find yurts that can
    comfortably sleep a family of four. They come equipped with a refrigerator,
    deck, picnic table and grill and some are even pet
    friendly.

     

    Yogi Bear’s Jellystone
    Park Camp Resort
     

    Larkspur,
    CO

    Here, you’ll have a choice of three yurts
    that sleep 4, 6 and 9 guests respectively, and all include electricity and a
    skylight. The park’s largest yurt, the “Mount Evans,” is nestled in the trees
    and comes equipped with three single-over-double bunk beds, making it ideal
    for birthday sleepovers.

    This RV park has a “Yurt Village” that’s surrounded
    by trees and features a 16, 20 and 24-foot yurts that sleep 4, 6 and 8
    guests, respectively. Each yurt includes a skylight, picnic table and fire
    ring.

    Cherry Hill Park offers two 16-foot
    yurts, one with four bunk beds and the other with a queen bed and bunk bed.
    Both units include a table and chairs.

    If there is such a thing as a luxury yurt,
    this is it! This air conditioned and heated yurt comes equipped with a flat
    screen TV, fireplace, bathroom and a kitchenette with a refrigerator,
    microwave and toaster. The private bedroom has a full-sized bed and there’s a
    large pullout couch and two pullout chairs in the living room. Four windows
    overlook the scenic pond area, and there’s even a wraparound deck equipped
    with a grill, table and chairs.

    Hampshire

    This cozy, canvas yurt includes a lockable
    door, two large screen windows, a sun dome, a full bed and a set of bunk beds.
    Just outside, there’s a water spigot, fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill
    and 30 amp outlet.

    PA

    Located in Pennsylvania’s beautiful Dutch
    country, Lake-In-Wood offers the L-I-W Yurt that features plenty of the
    comforts of home, including a bathroom, refrigerator, coffeemaker, toaster,
    gas grill, microwave, TV and heat. It even has a paddleboat! Lake-In-Wood
    also offers other unique rentals, including a double-decker bus, caboose,
    tipi, covered wagon and the “pirate inn.”

    This campground offers a “megasleeper” yurt
    that can accommodate up to 12 with three sets of twin bunks and three
    full-sized futons. This air conditioned unit includes a refrigerator,
    microwave, TV/DVD player, picnic bench, fire ring and
    grill.

    Merry Mac’s
    Campground
     

    Merrimac,
    WI

    These air conditioned/heated, smoke-free,
    pet-free yurts come equipped with a refrigerator, A/C, heat, DVD player and
    TV, kitchen, microwave, coffee maker and toaster as well as a grill, fire pit
    and picnic table right outside of the unit.

    Smokey Hollow
    Campground
     

    Lodi,
    WI

    Smokey Hollow offers 20′ yurts that sleep 6,
    and 30′ yurts that sleep 12. Each air-conditioned yurt is equipped with a
    table and chairs, ceiling fan, refrigerator, microwave, DVD player, coffee
    maker and toaster, along with a porch, picnic table, fire ring, and grill.
    Smokey Hollow’s beachfront yurts are located on the campground’s pond
    adjacent to the bathroom and shower facilities.
