The Place
A little over an hour drive away from the busy metropolitan Seattle area lies an RV resort that is worlds apart from the busy congested city life of Seattle. Anacortes is a popular tourist destination as well as a local getaway highly prized by quests looking to get away from the hectic city life to the south. Anacortes is considered the gateway to the San Juan Islands, a series of island in the sheltered waters between Washington and Vancouver Island. Ferry service leaves Anacortes for San Juan Island, Orcas Island and Lopez Island where Washington’s highway 20 ends at the ferry landing. The remoteness of these islands offers a peaceful relaxed setting and Anacortes further helps to reinforce that environment. Fidalgo Bay RV Resort has been around for 19 years but has undergone a series of upgrades that have really accelerated in recent years. The campground is located on Weaverling Spit, which is property owned by the Samish Indian Nation, who has owned the RV resort since 2004. It is set in a beautiful location overlooking Fidalgo Bay 2 miles from downtown Anacortes. A view from the clubhouse or from the waterfront sites is bound to include sea lions bobbing in the bay or bald eagles soaring above from their nearby nests on the spit. The Tommy Thompson hiking/biking trail is a paved trail that takes you from just beyond the campground to downtown Anacortes. The resort consists of five cabins, two main RVing areas, totaling 141 full hook-up campsites with cable TV and Wi-Fi. An upper campground overlooks the bay to the south while the lower campground is close to the bay and included the highly popular waterfront sites, which are configured to allow motorhomes to pull straight in to afford a scenic view from their windshield. A combination of asphalt and gravel access roads provides easy access to the packed gravel RV sites. The Convention Center can be rented for rallies, reunions, receptions or corporate events. The banquet room seats up to 100 but it can be divided into three sections if needed. A full service kitchen is available and a wide hallway can be used as a buffet line. On the backside of the Convention Center is the clubhouse, a place where guests can relax by the fireplace, play pool or an assortment of games or spend some time in the fitness room. The bayside patio area is slightly elevated to provide a relaxed setting to enjoy the bayfront view. A boat launch is located adjacent to this building. A modern playground and horseshoe pit in the lower campground provides recreation opportunities for guests of all ages. The office features a roomy reception area and check-in desk capable of handling multiple arrivals at the same time. Free coffee is provided every morning in the office for the guests. The gift shop area is filled with the usual RV related necessities, basic food and beverage items and souvenir gifts. Gifts made by local Samish tribal members are also sold on a consignment basis. The inventory is growing as demand increases every year. Propane sales are also available in a location easily accessed by large RVs. Fidalgo Bay RV Resort is located in a perfect location. It’s a laid back atmosphere that allows you to just relax and enjoy the view, yet gives guests the opportunity for more adventure if they choose. The resort partners with local amenity providers and can offer help and recommendations in planning your daily activities by recommending certain providers that have proven track records with satisfied customers. Whether you want to take a whale watching cruise, a fishing excursion, a trip to San Juan or Orcas Island, rent a moped or bicycle, or just want to know what to see on a self-guided day trip, the resort can offer assistance to make guest stays more enjoyable. Fidalgo Bay RV Resort has much going for it. A quiet, scenic location that is within reach of countless recreational opportunities, and a high percentage of return visitors, coupled with a staff willing to meet and exceed guests’ expectations make it a prized destination for any RV owner.
